Which wood species should I use?
Redwood, pine, or mahogany? Redwood has been the standard wood species over the years due to its ability to resist mold and mildew. Redwood looks beautiful without any stain, but Mahogany is a beautiful hardwood that accepts stain very well. Pine is a softer wood that is more economical but does not accept stain as well as mahogany.
An odorless wood species like pine, redwood or mahogany is naturally resistant to decay and will provide the ideal environment for long-term wine storage. Species such a Poplar, Birch, and Cedar which carry harsh odors could be potentially hazardous to your wine and should be avoided at all costs.
Please Note:
Images of wood textures and finish colors are approximate. The color and tone of natural wood products will vary from production to production. The color display on your computer monitor will vary as well. If you would like a physical wood sample in the finish of your choice please call 888.373.6057.
